Wilton, one of the leading cake supply companies, has created a chart of suggested servings per cake pan shape based upon a serving slice of 1"x2"x4". Refer to the column marked "Wedding Servings". If you prefer larger cake slices for the "main meal" or just because people like bigger cake, then refer to the "Party Servings" column. Cake tiers are comprised of two layers of cake separated by buttercream and/or a filling to achieve the height of approximately 4". You can use this chart to select a cake size. On the "Cakes Sizes" tab on the left, you can see some suggested cake tier combinations.
